Bayfront Medical Building and Illinois Street Garage

The new UCSF Illinois Street Garage opened on May 15, 2023, on the Mission Bay campus at Third, Mariposa and Illinois streets.

Construction is expected to be complete in summer 2024 for the Bayfront Medical Building, a new UCSF clinical facility on the Mission Bay campus. Formerly known as the Block 34 project, the Bayfront Medical Building complex is located south of the new UCSF Wayne and Gladys Valley Center for Vision (WGVCV) and runs along Illinois, Mariposa and Third streets.

Construction started in April 2021.

Adjacent to the building, a new Illinois Street Garage, 590 Illinois St., opened on May 15, 2023, as part of the project, providing 500 parking spaces for the new clinical building and the Mission Bay campus.

The new five-story, 182,800-square-foot, clinical building will include an ambulatory surgery center, same-day care, adult primary and secondary multi-specialty clinics, and a pharmacy.

The parking garage’s initial operation hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. UCSF employees and learners with a valid UCSF ID can access the garage 24/7. The garage also will house administrative offices for UCSF Transportation Services. More information about the Illinois Street Garage can be found on the UCSF Transportation website.

Details about the project are subject to change.

Why This Project Is Important

The Bayfront Medical Building is critical to support UCSF Health operations and to serve a growing patient demand, including an increasing demand for outpatient surgery.
