The Parnassus Research & Academic Building (PRAB) is a large development located on Parnassus Avenue, toward the west end of the UCSF Parnassus Heights campus. In this session, information will also be available about other major campus Parnassus Heights projects starting in 2023. 

The PRAB project consists of these major components: 

• Demolition of an existing building.
• Construction of a new 311,000-square-foot, nine-story building. The building will include five floors and two partial floors dedicated to state-of-the-art research; a floor to relocate UCSF School of Nursing; other educational, administrative, and support spaces; and frontage improvements to Parnassus Avenue. The site is heavily sloped and very challenging.
• The total Project Budget exceeds $800 million. Design is currently underway. Demolition is starting now. Construction is expected to span from 2024 through mid-2027. Move-in and activation is scheduled for 2027. 
• The PRAB project has a goal that 10% of the design and construction is performed by Small Business Enterprises (SBE) and/or Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBE). Our team will share general project overviews, current statuses, and be available to discuss how SBEs and DVBEs can get involved.

Presenter: Fred Whitney 

In this session, you will have the opportunity to learn about the design and construction opportunities at the New Hospital at Parnassus Heights (NHPH), a new 300-bed, approximately 900,000-square-foot hospital that includes site make-ready and hospital make-ready projects. NHPH has a design and construction value of approximately $3 billion and is planning to open for the first patient in 2030. 

NHPH has a goal that 10% of the design and construction is performed by Small Business Enterprises (SBE) and/or Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises (DVBE). Our team will share general project overviews, current statuses, and be available to discuss how SBEs and DVBEs can get involved.

Presenter: Katie Walsh 

In this session, you will learn about the design and construction opportunities at the Oakland campus for the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. Our East Bay facilities include our main hospital campus with outpatient and support buildings in Oakland and other locations, including Walnut Creek and San Ramon. 

We will be sharing upcoming opportunities to work with our team and an overview of our Campus Modernization plans, which includes our New Hospital Building (NHB) project, Administrative Support Building (ASB), structure and department relocations, including a lab upgrade project, office fit outs, and imaging department equipment upgrades. The ASB project plans to engage small and disadvantaged business enterprises to ensure that a minimum of 10% of the contract value and 25% of the labor force is from the local nine Bay Area counties. UCSF is committed to partnering with small and diverse businesses for the NHB project; that project’s local business cooperation agreement is being developed.   

Our team will share general project overviews, current statuses, and be available to discuss how SBEs and DVBEs can get involved.  You will learn about the scopes of work for each project, approximate schedules, how to follow up with our team with inquiries, and more details about these opportunities.

Health Design and Construction is responsible for the management of capital projects within our existing UCSF Health buildings across all UCSF campuses, including leasehold buildings. Our teams manage approximately $125 million worth of work annually. Project values scale from $250,000 to $70 million. The types of projects range from HCAI/BPS-permitted Clinical Tenant Improvements to large medical equipment replacement projects (MRI, CT, Linear Accelerator). All projects are done within our existing facilities, adjacent to active patient care. We will also cover projects valued at less than $250,000. These project types include, but are not limited to, small office/clinic remodels, cosmetic upgrades, and minor electrical scope. In addition, we will highlight projects that are in the Sheltered Bidding program. Our team will be available to discuss how SBEs and DVBEs can get involved in this work.

Come learn about the Campus Design and Construction Project Delivery Group, tasked with delivering projects valued of up to $70 million. In this session, you will learn about how Project Delivery structures their procurements of consultants and contractors during programming (pre-design), design and construction. We will review services that are typically used at each stage, and what the expectations of a service provider are at relatively small projects, as well as some of the larger individual projects we take on. Our team will be available to discuss how SBEs and DVBEs can get involved in this work.

Presenter: Bernadette Jimenez 

UCSF Facilities' Infrastructure Programs specializes in deferred maintenance and equipment replacement. Our team uses a contractor rotation to ensure that jobs are processed to alternate different contractors onsite, including designers. Typical budgets are from $25,000 to $1 million. Our team currently has a total budget of $180 million, which includes deferred maintenance, 15- and 25-year renewals, tenant improvement and Statewide Energy Partnership projects. Most of our projects are in occupied buildings, including research, offices, outpatient and classrooms. 

Infrastructure Programs wants to support the small and diverse business community. Our team will be available to discuss how SBEs and DVBEs can get involved in this work.

The University of California Office of the President created a Sheltered Bidding/Sheltered Applicant Pool program for all UC campuses. The goal of the program is to award 25% of our negotiated and informal consultant and construction contracts to certified SBEs and DVBEs firms by 2025. In this session, you will learn about the UCSF Real Estate Sheltered Bidding Program and how you can participate in it.
